چکیده
A 6-year-old Swedish boy presented with symptoms suggestive of appendicitis and with a mass in the right iliac fossa. Computed tomography of the abdomen showed ileal wall thickening with multiple retroperitoneal nodes. Biopsy of the lymph nodes showed necrotizing suppurative granulomatous lymphadenitis. Yersinia enterocolitica serotype 0:5 IgM was positive, suggesting a possible diagnosis of Yersiniosis. Intestinal spirochaetes have been reported in up to 12.3% of t...

Acute appendicitis is one of the frequently seen emergencies in the pediatric hospitals. Nevertheless, its diagnosis and management is often challenging in infants and neonates. The diagnosis is frequently made at operation performed for the complications [1-3]. We encountered a similar situation in a 2-month-old infant in whom the perforated appendicitis presented with small bowel obstruction.

Between AD 900 and AD 1200 Vikings, being able to navigate skillfully across the open sea, were the dominant seafarers of the North Atlantic. When the Sun was shining, geographical north could be determined with a special sundial. However, how the Vikings could have navigated in cloudy or foggy situations, when the Sun's disc was unusable, is still not fully known. A hypothesis was formulated i...
